Whole 30 Wrap Up!

The

We completed our first Whole 30 challenge!  We are both feeling really good about it, and carrying a lot of the principles into our daily lives even now that we are done!

We did go out for a "splurge" meal on the 31st. The food was great, as usual, but nothing we can't live without.  I hadn't had a drop of soda in a month, and I decided to really live on the edge and get a diet Coke.  I had about three sips and went and dumped it out and switched to plain iced tea because the soda just tasted wrong and chemical and overly sweet to my newly adjusted taste buds!  I'm just sticking with water or the occasional tea from now on!

The biggest surprise of the challenge for me was that my candy-eating, soda-drinking, non-Paleo husband not only stuck with it (I predicted he would bow out around day three!) but is so pleased with his results that he plans to join me in my mostly Paeo lifestyle now that he is done!

We've really gotten into our tea drinking.  When you're not adding copious amounts of sugar or stevia to your tea you suddenly can taste the actual flavor of the tea, so we've got a huge variety of tea (I think we've got just about every flavor Tazo makes at this point!).   Not having caffeine in the afternoon forced me to even try all the caffeine-free, herbal varieties- and I learned to love them!

Of course, the biggest reward for us and the most drastic change has been the weight loss, and I am sure those are the stats you're all waiting for!

I started on January 1st at 256.6 pounds, which, due to way too much holiday indulgence, was up from my pre-holiday low of about 244.

I finished the 30 days at 239.2, which is a loss for the month of 17.4 pounds for me, and a new low.  This brings me to over 70 pounds lost with Paleo!  I have not been this small since I hit it on my way up the scale, when I was about 21 or 22!

Rich lost a total of 21.4 pounds for the month!  On our date out on the 31st we had to get him some new pants, and he is into a 38 which is what size he was when I met him, almost nineteen years ago, when he was 25!

That's a combined January Whole 30 weight loss total of 38.8 pounds for the two of us!

For now, we are back to Paleo with the occasional Saturday splurge.  We are planning to start incorporating some more regular exercise as our next goal. We also are talking about doing the Whole 30 a few times a year, maybe once a season, to reset our bodies, detox, and remind ourselves that we need to eat to live and not live to eat!

you both look fantastic! I can't believe how thin you both look. I'm glad you've broken the diet coke habit. I've learned to love water too.
