Whole 30, Day 13 - Emulsion

Yesterday morning I took the kids to the Conservation Gardens for a walk and then a stroll around the farmer's market.  I got all sorts of yummies, including a big bag of picked-that-morning oranges, some seasoned almonds that I can munch on (I asked for ingredients and specifics at just about every booth I paused at, much to my children's frustration!) and some homemade peppermint soap.

Then I came home and made mayonnaise.  Since I don't eat vegetable oil most "over the counter" mayo is off limits, and even the stuff that claims to be made with olive oil is mostly soybean oil. Ew.

I used this recipe from The Clothes Make the Girl.  I followed it to a tee and was rewarded with tasty, natural mayo!  I immediately chopped up some onion and some dill pickles (one of my favorite farmer's market booths sells pickles and salsas that meet my strict guidelines!) and opened a few cans of water-packed tuna and made tuna salad, which I served up to the menfolk and myself with celery stalks.

Last night Rich and I went to our friends' house for a bonfire/bbq to celebrate a birthday.  We were able to stick to our Whole 30 easily by bringing our own steaks to throw on the grill plain, and bringing a fruit tray and a veggie tray to share so that we were sure to have some paleo snacks.  We went through Starbucks on the way for some unsweetened green tea to sip and we were set, and able to enjoy the people around us and not worry about food or cheats, which is as it should be.

That was day 12, today is 13 and a Sunday, which I try to keep as a day of rest.  I got my house mostly clean Friday and yesterday, and Richard works on Sundays, so today I am just hanging around in my pajamas, catching up on DVR shows, running a few loads of laundry through, letting the kids relax themselves for the week ahead, and making a paleo minestrone soup for dinner, which I am hoping will be just the thing for the cold my husband seems to be coming down with today- and keeping my fingers crossed that I don't catch it!
